We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with experience in protein crystallography to join the Alzheimer’s Research UK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute (ODDI), where you will be part of a larger team carrying out research into new dementia targets at Centre for Medicines Discovery.
The ODDI is a member of the Alzheimer’s Research UK-funded Dementia Discovery Alliance (DDA) - a successful trilogy of institutes (alongside UCL and Cambridge) translating cutting-edge academic innovations into medicines for patients living with neurodegenerative diseases. Since being established in 2016, the DDA has evaluated over 60 drug targets, set up over 249 strategic collaborations, received over £26M in external grants and spun out a biotechnology company.
Reporting to the Assay Development and Screening Team Leader, you will become an integral part of drug discovery project teams working on targets involved in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases causing dementia. You will employ cutting-edge structural and biophysical/biochemical research to characterise new proteins and carry out mechanism of action studies of novel therapeutic chemistries. Current projects include proteins important for microglial function, including those in the TREM2 signalling pathway, and other proteins involved in the neuroimmune system, inflammasome formation and complement pathway. The role will allow you to build your experience in drug discovery research while working collaboratively with scientists across a number of different disciplines including computational/ medicinal chemists and neuronal cell biologists.
It is essential that you hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in structural biology/biochemistry or a related subject together with relevant laboratory experience. Experience in protein crystallography, recombinant protein production and biochemical and/or biophysical assay development is also essential for the role. You will have excellent teamworking and communication skills and be able to effectively manage your own research.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 2 years and is funded by Alzheimer's Research UK.
Only applications received before 12 midday on 27 March 2023 will be considered. Please quote 163848 on all correspondence.
