We are seeking a motivated and Talented experimentalist for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant position within Professor Ares’ research group at the Department of Engineering Science (Central Oxford). The post is funded by Innovate and is fixed-term to the 31st October 2025.
The overarching goal of this project is to exploit quantum effects to improve the energy efficiency of precision measurements with nano-electronic devices. We are part of an international consortium involving partners in Ireland, the UK, Spain, Sweden, and Austria.
You will focus on experiments on quantum dots electrostatically defined in suspended carbon nanotube devices. Combining electronic and mechanical degrees of freedom these devices allow the study of the thermodynamics of precision by monitoring vibrational modes in the nanotube.
You should possess a Ph.D/D.Phil (or be near completion*) in a relevant subject. Experimental expertise in fabrication and electrical characterisation of quantum devices at cryogenic temperatures is essential as is a a strong background in the theory of quantum devices.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Natalia Ares (email: natalia.ares@materials.ox.ac.uk)
For more information about working at the Department, see www.eng.ox.ac.uk/about/work-with-us/
Only applications received before midday on the 27th March 2023 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, (describing how past experience fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
