Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor (or Professorship) of Computer Science in the Department of Computer Science, to start by 1 September 2023. The successful candidate will also be appointed as a Tutorial Fellow in Computer Science at Magdalen College, with shared responsibility for the organisation and teaching of their subject within the College.

 

The Department of Computer Science is a vibrant and growing academic department, which has a research profile across the entire spectrum of contemporary computer science.  You will be expected to engage in independent and original research in an area that enhances and is coherent with the research profile and strategic research directions of the Department of Computer Science. You will be expected to secure funding, to engage in the management of research projects, and to disseminate your research through publications in high-quality scholarly journals and conferences.  You will also contribute to teaching on the Department’s highly successful undergraduate and graduate programmes.

 

In the College you will undertake the work of a Tutorial Fellow: you will teach and take responsibility for overseeing the academic progress of undergraduates, take part in the undergraduate admissions process, act as College Adviser to graduate students, contribute to the intellectual life of the College, and serve as a member of the College’s Governing Body (a Charity Trustee) and on other committees and working groups.

 

You will hold a doctoral degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, have the ability to teach across a range of Computer Science subjects, and will also have a proven research track record of internationally high quality in Computer Science. As part of our expansion, we are looking for outstanding candidates in all areas of Computer Science. For this post, a specialisation in systems (to complement our existing research areas) is desirable (but is not essential).
