We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the body MRS group at the Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research (OCMR), working with Dr Valkovič who holds a prestigious “Sir Henry Dale Fellowship” funded by the Royal Society and the Wellcome Trust. This position is available immediately and is offered for 2 years in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal (funding available till 30 April 2026). The post-holder will develop cutting-edge methods for multi-nuclear (31P and 1H) cardiac spectroscopy, validate them and facilitate their roll out to clinical research in the department.
You will join a vibrant multidisciplinary research centre that employs magnetic resonance physicists, engineers, clinical researchers, and many others. The primary focus at OCMR is on cardiac applications under the overall leadership of Prof Stefan Neubauer (clinician with world-leading expertise in 31P methods) and Prof Damian Tyler (director of MR physics at OCMR). You will be expected to adapt existing and develop new cardiac MRS pulse sequences, optimize measurement parameters and design experimental protocols. As well as this you will Run simulations, scan phantoms and acquire in vivo data in healthy volunteers to validate the designed methods.
A PhD in physics, chemistry or engineering (or in another subject that provides a solid grounding in MR physics) is essential and you will also need to show strong evidence of computer programming skills (ideally including C++ and Matlab). Practical experience using an in vivo MR system (ideally Siemens) would be desirable.
This is a full time appointment on a fixed term contract and you will be based at the Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research (OCMR), Level 0, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford
