<div>Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, to be held in the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology &amp; Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS). The Department seeks to appoint an outstanding researcher at honorary consultant level to join the Musculoskeletal Clinical Academic Sciences team at the Botnar Institute for Musculoskeletal Sciences. This is a joint appointment with a non-stipendiary Supernumerary Fellowship at Worcester College. </div>

<div>The principal duties of the post will be to conduct international quality clinical research in the field of orthopaedic surgery and to deliver teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, share in the administrative work of the Department and College, and carry out other administrative duties as agreed with the Head of Department. You must also be qualified to work at consultant level in the NHS as a consultant orthopaedic hip surgeon. </div>

<div>You should have an excellent track record in clinical research and medical education. You will be expected to have sufficient experience to lead large national trials and associated studies in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal disease. You must hold a higher degree (PhD/DPhil) and be medically and surgically qualified at consultant level with fellowship training and consultant level experience in orthopedic primary and revision hip surgery. You will show evidence of distinction in research through publications, invited lectures and have sustainable peer-reviewed funding in orthopaedic and musculoskeletal research, as well as an understanding of the University’s obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty. </div>

<div>The Associate Professorship will be held in conjunction with an honorary contract with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and you will undertake clinical, surgical administrative, and other hospital duties as agreed by the Head of Department, the Medical Sciences Divisional Board and the NHS. </div>

<div>This is an important statutory post in the department and was created in 2001 as a result of an endowment from the late Norman Collisson. The post is based in the Botnar Institute for Musculoskeletal Sciences within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Science (NDORMS). The appointee is expected to further develop clinical academic rheumatology within NDORMS and Oxford, and grow clinical trials and translational studies in rheumatology, facilitating close collaborations between the Botnar Institute, Kennedy Institute and the NHS in Oxford. The aim is to recruit an internationally outstanding clinical academic leader with a proven record of success in the field of rheumatological clinical science who can work at the University/NHS interface to build translational research impact nationally and globally.</div>

<div>The Professor will be expected to contribute to the development of existing and emerging strengths within the Department and the wider University, and raise funding from multiple funders. </div>

<div>The post is associated with St Peter’s College. Nearly every subject studied at the University is represented in St Peter's. As a strong and international academic community, it fosters intellectual rigour, creativity, and independence in its students, teachers, and researchers. </div>

<div>This academic post is a for a medically qualified doctor with specialist training in rheumatology and able to work at consultant level in the NHS. The post holder will need to be eligible to hold an honorary rheumatology consultant contract with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and will be expected to deliver a clinical service component as part of their job plan. </div>

<div><strong>About the Role</strong></div>

<div>Based within the Oxford Translational Myeloma Centre (OTMC) at the Botnar Institute, this post will join an interdisciplinary team of experimental scientists and clinical researchers working in translational multiple myeloma research. The postholder will contribute to projects aimed at understanding tumour-intrinsic and tumour-extrinsic determinants of treatment response and resistance in multiple myeloma, within the OTMC’s clinical-translational infrastructure. </div>

<div><strong>About You</strong></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>You must hold a BSc or MSc in biological science or another related field and have practical laboratory experience with core molecular biology techniques (including but not limited to DNA/RNA handling, PCR/qPCR, cell culture techniques, basic QC approaches) and a willingness/ability to learn new methods quickly and to troubleshoot. You will have experience of following and adapting protocols and selecting appropriate experimental methodologies together with a demonstrable ability to follow detailed protocols and work to high standards of accuracy, quality control and traceability, including meticulous sample labelling, logging and record keeping. Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise tasks across parallel activities (e.g., sample processing, biobanking, and experimental support) and meet deadlines as well as an ability to handle human samples appropriately and to work responsibly within relevant governance/safety frameworks is essential.</div>
