<jobDescription>

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the Centre for Human Genetics, where you’ll be part of a team advancing stem cell research through cutting-edge work with human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). You will be based in our dedicated iPSC facility, which focuses on genetic manipulation, lineage differentiation, and developing new tools to understand human biology. This role suits someone who enjoys hands-on lab work, has strong technical experience with iPSCs, and wants to contribute to research that leads to meaningful scientific insights and high-quality publications. It’s a great opportunity to build on your expertise while working in a collaborative and supportive environment.

You will be responsible for maintaining high-quality iPSC lines and carrying out a range of genetic and cellular experiments. This includes designing and performing CRISPR/Cas gene-editing studies, developing new protocols, and differentiating iPSCs into multiple lineages using established SOPs. You’ll handle specialist equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and keep experiments running smoothly day to day. You will also analyse data, test hypotheses, and contribute to scientific reports, papers, and presentations. As part of the team, you will share your expertise with colleagues, support junior researchers, and help shape ongoing and future research directions. You will manage your own projects, coordinate timelines, and take part in wider departmental activities, including public engagement and training.

It is essential you hold, or are close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, or a related field. You will need experience in iPSC culture and differentiation, along with confidence in standard molecular biology techniques such as DNA prep, PCR, RT-PCR, immunostaining, and confocal imaging. Strong communication skills are important, as is experience contributing to publications or presentations. You should be someone who enjoys learning new methods, works carefully and consistently, and brings enthusiasm for stem cell research and its potential impact.

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 24 months and is funded by the department.
