We are currently recruiting for at least one Trial Manager post to lead on one trial in the unit, this may be a Clinical Trial of Investigational Medicinal Product (CTIMP).

 

Integrated within a busy, multidisciplinary UKCRC registered clinical trials unit, the successful applicant will work closely with the study Senior Trial Manager, as part of the trial management team and closely with other functions within the unit such as data, IT and statistics. Responsibilities will include all key tasks within the lifecycle of the trial and line management either within the study itself or within the trial management group.

 

The successful applicant will lead on one of the studies currently in set-up in the clinical trials unit, developing trial essential documents, gaining relevant regulatory approvals, conducting site initiation visits, managing recruitment and study logistics, contributing to data analysis and oversight committees.

 

You will hold a good first degree, or have equivalent experience in a research environment, and have detailed knowledge of a full life-cycle of study management. You will have strong computer literacy skills, be able to work well in a team, in a busy environment and have the ability to effectively prioritise tasks.

The work will involve conducting qualitative work, undertaking interviews, focus groups and/or observations to understand how both healthcare professionals and patients think about interventions. It will also involve developing and delivering projects evaluating the impact of novel diagnostics and other health technologies in community nursing services and rural coastal community healthcare settings. The role will involve leading the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, writing papers and conference presentations.

 

You will be working under the supervision of Professor Gail Hayward and Professor Sarah Tonkin-Crine, within the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. The post is funded by the NIHR ARC Thames Valley and the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance. Research studies are being led in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team from a number of universities and with colleagues in UKHSA.

 

You will have a PhD (or near completion) in a health science subject such as clinical medicine, public health, health psychology or sociology, or substantial relevant experience. You will also demonstrate attention to detail in research co-ordination and conduct, the ability to work independently and in teams, and excellent written English skills.

 

To succeed in this post, you will have a keen interest in using qualitative methods, working with clinical teams to implement new technologies, and primary care research. You will be highly motivated and enthusiastic about working collaboratively with researchers from different disciplines.

The KMIP theme is practically driven, using knowledge mobilisation and implementation science approaches which support the ARC TV themes and partner organisations to implement innovations, where they will have the greatest impact. The theme is embedded within the health and care system. The postholder will be hosted in the Interdisciplinary Research in Health Sciences (IRIHS) research group, led by Professor Sara Shaw (ARC KMIP team member) and Associate Professor Chrysanthi Papoutsi. The group brings together a breadth of disciplinary lenses spanning health and social care, medicine, sociology, anthropology, policy studies, psychology and more.

 

The successful applicant will contribute to a diverse portfolio of implementation and knowledge mobilisation activity across ARC themes and partner organisations, supporting the adoption, spread and evaluation of implementation-ready interventions and evidence-informed practice. Responsibilities will include supporting stakeholder engagement and partnership working across health, social care and community settings; contributing to implementation and knowledge mobilisation research activity; supporting the development of implementation resources, evidence summaries and stakeholder-facing outputs; and contributing to the monitoring and evaluation of KMIP activities and impact. The postholder will also contribute to collaborative learning, dissemination and capacity-building activities across the ARC and wider partner networks.

 

You will have or be close to the completion of a relevant PhD/DPhil in applied health research or a related discipline and possess specialist knowledge relevant to implementation, knowledge mobilisation and/or applied health research. You will have experience of supporting the mobilisation and translation of research evidence into policy, practice, service improvement and/or implementation activity, alongside strong analytical and communication skills. Experience of working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including patients, public contributors and underserved communities, is essential.

The successful applicant will join a rapidly expanding group of more than 30 health economists undertaking applied and methodological research across a range of health conditions and healthcare settings in the UK and internationally, working closely with multidisciplinary teams within NDPCHS and across the University of Oxford, as well as with collaborators at partner institutions internationally. Responsibilities will include undertaking economic evaluations and disease modelling, analysing complex datasets, and contributing to publications, reports for funders, and conference presentations. An example project involves identifying cardiovascular disease prevention interventions through literature review and Delphi expert consensus, and modelling their long-term costs across European health systems to 2070.

 

You will hold, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in Health Economics, Economics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Health Data Science, Mathematics, or another quantitative discipline, and will have experience in health economics, disease modelling, health technology assessment, or a related area, together with strong quantitative and analytical skills. Experience conducting economic evaluations and analysing complex datasets using statistical software such as R, Stata, or Python is essential.
