<jobDescription>

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with expertise in viral proteomics to join a research team studying chronic hepatitis B and will report to Prof. Jane McKeating. This post requires an innovative postdoctoral-level scientist with expertise in proteomics or spatial transcriptomic analysis. The post is funded by a Wellcome Discovery award to apply spatial methodologies to study hepatitis B virus replication and host immune responses. This post provides an outstanding training opportunity to apply these new technologies to clinically important questions with the goal of understanding the pathways that define host susceptibility to hepatitis B virus infection.

You will be responsible for managing your own academic research and administrative activities and keep records of all experimental results. You will test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate. You will also adapt existing and develop new scientific analytical pipelines to support the project goals. Working as part of a team, you will co-operatively work with senior and junior colleagues and share research resources.

It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or be close to completion) in proteomics or a related area. You must have an advanced proficiency to analyse proteomic data. You must also have the ability to develop new analytical methods and to demonstrate their utility in biomedical research.

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract until 30 April 2028 and is funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Only applications received before 12 midday on Monday, 22 June 2026 will be considered. Please quote 186888 on all correspondence.
